Activities
The regular activities of the Regional Centre are concentrated upon more or less on the following important areas:
Conducting Workshops, Seminar, Training and Awareness Programmes for the Government Officials, NGOs, Eco-system people (both men and women) and farmers to educate and generate awareness amongst them on the need for development of wastelands to conserve the environment, preserve the natural balance, check further degradation of both lands and the eco-system.
Field Evaluation of centrally sponsored Plantation Programmes and other Eco-development activities undertaken by various State Forest Departments, NGOs, VOs, etc.
Evaluation of Participatory Management of degraded forest lands by the JFMCs to assess its degree of success and also advise for better management and transfer of technology.
Documentation of Success Story of Plantation/Eco-restoration activities, etc.
Study of Sacred Groves in the forest/private areas to ascertain the indigenous conservation measures followed by the members of rural population living inside the forest fringe areas.
Study of N.T.F.P. in the forests of different States to ascertain how much the villagers of the forest/forest fringe areas depend on them.
Studies of Tree Grower’s Co-operative in West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar to enable to solve the problems associated with the marketing of both timber and N.T.F.P.s.
Survival Rate Studies of Plantations undertaken by Government/Non-Government Sectors.
Ecological studies on Natural Regeneration of Tropical Forests in different climatic zones.
Operational Studies on Joint Forest Management (JFM) and Status survey.
Development of various Agro-Forestry Models for demonstration under different agro-climatic zones.
Biological Reclamation of abandoned coalmine areas for improving the landscape and economic use of wastelands.
Soil and Water Conservation works in Hills & Plains.
Survey and demarcation of Wastelands.
Preparation of Wasteland Maps.
Preparation of micro-plan for economically retarded and ecologically degraded areas.
Undertakes activities in the Development of Watersheds and Water Resources.
Conducting Annual Workshop and preparation of Workshop Proceedings.
Capsule Certificate Courses entitled “Integrated Natural Resources Management in the Developing Countries” offered by the Centre in association with School of Water Resources Engineering, Jadavpur University, is to be started very soon
One week Refresher Training Course assigned by Ministry of Environment & Forests, Govt. of India, for Indian Forest Service Officers on “Emerging Technologies in Water Resources Conservation” during February 14-18, 2005.
